Rules of Use for the Gardeners' eXchange

  1. Please read this document in its entirety. You are responsible for understanding and following all of these rules.
  2. NO POLITICS, NO SPAM, AND NO SOLICITATIONS (e.g., for business or services). The Gardeners’ eXchange is purely for the free exchange of plants or gardening materials. Off-topic postings will not be accepted.
  3. NO RUDE, CRUDE, ANGRY OR HATEFUL POSTS TO THE GROUP OR IN PRIVATE MESSAGES TO OTHER MEMBERS. All communications with other members on and off list must be civil and courteous. Two complaints and you will be removed from the Gardeners’ eXchange. Particularly egregious violations of this rule (at the moderator's discretion) will be treated with a zero-tolerance policy and the violator will be banned without warning.
  4. NO TRADING OR RESELLING OF ITEMS. How you use your new item(s) is up to you, but the Gardeners’ eXchange does not allow the exchange of items for resale. Members who violate this rule will be removed from the Gardeners’ eXchange community.
  5. POSTING. The Gardeners’ eXchange form provides space to describe the plant or material you wish to offer, share, or request. Please provide a complete description so members fully understand what you are describing. You should also give a clear and concise description in the ‘Subject’ line. However, we ask that you keep any personal information to a minimum, both for security and comfort reasons. In particular, personal reasons for requesting an item are better discussed privately with the individual on the other end of the transaction, if it seems necessary, and kept out of the group domain.
  6. CHOOSING A RECIPIENT. This is entirely at the Offerer’s discretion. Some choose 1st come, 1st serve, others try to choose the “best home” for their plants/materials. Waiting a bit before following up on a response may help determine if there are respondents who need the item more than others, but ultimately it's up to the Offerer as to how to proceed.
  7. PICK UP & SAFETY. Arrange as you like. However, be aware that in some communities it is illegal to leave items at the curb so we ask that you do not do this. Please make specific arrangements for pick-up, such as leaving items on your driveway or porch between specified hours. It is not necessary, nor prudent, to meet face-to-face, particularly at your home. Nor is it necessary to speak by phone – all communications can be carried out by email, if you prefer. Always be aware of the potential risk of having a stranger come to your home to pick something up. It is your responsibility to act safely. The Gardeners’ eXchange, The Gardeners’ List, In the Garden, LLC, and the moderators of the Gardeners’ eXchange, as facilitators, assume no responsibility for any risks involved.
  8. DISCLAIMER: GARDENERS’ EXCHANGE MEMBERS USE THE LIST AT THEIR OWN RISK. Please take reasonable measures to protect your safety and privacy when posting to the list or participating in an exchange. By joining the Gardeners’ eXchange, you agree to hold neither the list owners and moderators nor anyone affiliated with The Gardeners’ List or In the Garden, LLC responsible or liable for any circumstance resulting from a Gardeners’ eXchange exchange or communication.
  9. The Moderators reserve the right to make decisions regarding posts and Gardeners’ eXchange memberships. We may reject or modify posts to better suit the community’s purpose. These rules may change over time as new issues come to light and you join the Gardeners’ eXchange with the understanding and acceptance of this. All members have a responsibility to review this document on the website periodically and know and follow the rules. By checking the ‘I accept’ box below, you indicate that you have read and understand these rules, and that you accept all the aforementioned policies.
