Garden Coaching
There seem to be so many types of "coaches" these days - sports coaches, life coaches, business coaches, even construction coaches. So what is a garden coach?
Garden coaches are gardening professionals who come to your house to help you become a more confident and accomplished gardener. They generally fill the gap between landscape designers and landscape contractors. For example, the designer has put together a beautiful design, the landscaper has installed it - now what do you do??
What Does a Garden Coach Do?
New to the Fairfield County area? Just bought a new house and you're not sure what's in the garden? Or simply looking for some advice to make your garden even more beautiful? A garden coach may be just what you need.
A garden coach generally doesn't do the work for you - he or she teaches you how to do it for yourself. There's so much to know about gardening that often the simplest and most enjoyable way to learn what you need to know is to hire a garden coach. A garden coach will come to your house and work with you in your garden - after all, your own garden is the best learning environment for you.
Here are some of the services provided by a garden coach -
- plant identification
- plant care (e.g., pruning, division, planting, placement)
- disease and pest identification and management
- general garden design
- vegetable / edible gardening
- bed / soil preparation and maintenance
- organic / eco-friendly gardening methods
- tool purchase, use, and care
- plant purchase (some coaches will even come to the garden center with you)
- referral to other landscape professionals (e.g.,
hardscape, water gardens, full design services, lawn care)
It's important to note that garden coaches may specialize in different areas and so may offer different or additional services. Most operate on an hourly basis, often with a 2-hour minimum for the initial consultation. As with any other contractor, ask for references from past clients and talk with the garden coach to see whether they can meet your specific needs.
